The Discarded Milk module helps you track milk that cannot be sold or used due to health issues, contamination, or safety concerns. Proper monitoring allows you to reduce losses and improve farm health management.

✅ Management Steps #
Step 1: Check Pending Discards #
Before adding a manual record, always review the Pending Discards from Active Treatments section.
What This Shows: #
- Animals currently under treatment
- Active Milk Withdrawal Period
- Remaining days before milk becomes safe again
👉 Use this list as a daily reminder of milk that must be discarded.
Step 2: Record a Discard Entry #
To log discarded milk:
- Select Date: Choose when the discard occurred.
- Select Animal (Optional):
- Choose an animal tag if discard relates to a specific cow.
- Enter Quantity: Add the volume in Liters.
- Assign Reason: Select the correct reason, such as:
- Under Treatment
- Bad Quality
- Colostrum
- Contaminated
Step 3: Link to Collection Account #
Select the relevant Collection Account.
This ensures:
- Accurate milk batch tracking
- Correct Net Balance calculations in analytics
- Prevention of inventory mismatches
Step 4: Monitor Waste Statistics #
Use the dashboard summaries to evaluate losses.
Key Metrics to Watch: #
Monthly Discard Total
Shows total milk lost during the current month.
Reason Breakdown
Identifies the most common causes of waste.
Example:
- High “Under Treatment” → review herd health management
- High “Contamination” → check hygiene practices
Step 5: Manage Production Status #
If an animal needs to stop milk production:
Remove from Milk #
Use when an animal is:
- Seriously ill
- Entering dry period
- Permanently non-productive
Restore to Milk #
Use when:
- Treatment is complete
- Animal is safe for production again
Restored animals will become available in the Milk Collection module.

Medical Synchronization #
The Pending Discards list is automatically synced with the Treatment & Medical module.
Example:
If a veterinarian sets a 72-hour withdrawal period, the animal will automatically appear here during that time.
Profit Impact #
Discarded milk directly reduces your Milk Efficiency Score.
Reducing waste is the fastest way to increase farm profitability.
Inventory Accuracy #
Linking discards to Collection Accounts prevents ghost inventory, meaning:
Milk recorded as collected but never available for sale.
